All of my hundreds of poems have one thing in common: They are all intended to be published in a monospace typeface. In all the poetry I’ve written, the typeface I’ve used is 11-point Courier New, for its resemblance to a traditional typewriter font.
Today, monospaced fonts have fallen out of style, for various legitimate reasons, and are used today primarily for displaying computer code.
But I still intend to work with Courier New because, for me, the appearance of a poem on the page is an important aspect of its impact and even its meaning. So, as an artist, I’m stuck with it. To change the font would change the character of the poem, much as the musical key of a piece, and its rhythm, are what makes each musical passage sound the way its composer intended.
My poems have been published in Adventures in Poetry Magazine, Adventures in Poetry Anthology, Creative Review, Encore, New Earth Review, Speak Out and Writer’s Forum.
